"Gute Nacht Freunde" is perhaps the most famous theme tune in the history of Dutch radio. Since the very beginning of "Met het Oog op Morgen" in 1976, Reinhard Mey's voice has been heard at the start and end of every broadcast, and the tune has become the program's calling card.
Reinhard Mey from Berlin (Germany) wrote "Gute Nacht Freunde" in the late 1960s, about one of the many evenings he spent discussing the world with mostly musical friends. Saying goodbye at the end of such an evening was always hard for him. And because Mey expresses himself best through music, he wrote a song for his friends. A farewell song to make saying goodbye just a little more bearable.
