Well , this one crept out in the middle of my schedule, and as these things go I had to drop everything to do it. So I finished Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us Part 2" just a few days ago and the beautifully haunting main theme by Gustavo Santaolalla has been on my mind since then. I thought it was played on one of those dobro guitars but upon listening more closely I recognized the instrument as being a 6 string banjo / guitar hybrid (essentially a guitar with a banjo body) and I had to get one. I quickly looked at local ads and it turns out someone was selling one in the next village down.
That very same evening I had the Banjo guitar... Guitanjo ... Banjitar... whatever it's called, and started learning the tune. The next part involved recording samples of my various stringed instruments played with a fiddle bow (bass, mandolin, bouzouki, banjo, guitar... ) and sampling them so I could use them on my midi keyboard (I did that part live on Twitch) . And voila , a full, delightfully creepy background string quartet to accompany the main tune.
I decided to film this outside for a change, playing on the steps of my old pallet shed and filming some still shots in a couple of nearby derelict houses.
Kinda happy with everything . The game is emotionally charged and I wanted to do the cover as soon as possible to sort of keep that energy in the video.
It's different from what you're used to I suppose but it's good to change things a bit every now and then. I hope you enjoy it .
