In April 2026, we covered Question 147 of the GPSC STI Prelims (Dec 2024): is Kautilya's Arthashastra written in Sanskrit, and is it a book of economics? GPSC's final answer key accepted only the first statement โ and one candidate missed the cut-off by just 1.23 marks. She took the commission to court.
On 17 August 2026, Justice Nirzar Desai of the Gujarat High Court struck down the answer key. The question was based on an unauthenticated PDF from an unknown internet source, and GPSC admitted it has no written policy to verify reference material. The ruling: when the source itself is in doubt, the benefit of doubt goes to the candidate โ not the exam-conducting body. Her mark now stands restored.
