I'm building a LP style rustic guitar out of ash wood.
I wanted to make some kind of rustik or antique looking guitar for quite some time now and I aready had the perfect hardware waiting for a project like this.
Natuarly I knew that I don't want new looking shiny harware on a guitar like this.
Therefore I sanded the hardware to remove a lot of the chrome plating and I put all the parts in a container with 10% acetic acid. After a few days I cleaned the hardware and I put it in a nother container with saltwater. After a day or so the hardware looked beautifuly corroded as if has been forgotten in an old barn.
For the finish I decided to use a brown alcohol based dye and since I like the guitar to look and feel natural, I desiced to only apply one coat of boiled linseed oil.
Just to seal the wood and to pop the grain but I don't wanted a visible finish on the surface.
