Gregs Garage | Guitar Build - Part 16 - DIY Alumitone Style Pickup Test @GregsGarage | Uploaded 10 years ago | Updated 14 hours ago
I am testing out a single coil - low impedance pickup that will have an on board transformer to boost the current/voltage with a secondary set of windings. I got the idea when I saw an Alumitone pickup and started to do some research. This is the proof of concept using a loop of #12 copper wire and a wall wart transformer with the secondary windings cut out.
Now that I know it will work, I will start to refine the design. The reason for the custom pickup is to avoid routing pickup cavities into the neck through body design.
This would be a perfect solution for a $2 rat rod, cigar box guitar pickup.
