Is it true that the #guandao weighed 30–50 kg? In this video, I compare a realistic 4 kg training guandao with a 25 kg DIY version to demonstrate why such heavy weapons would be completely impractical in combat.
To settle the debate, I try to perform the same form with both weapons — and even invite a bodybuilder to show that strength alone isn’t enough when the weapon is absurdly heavy.
We also compare the guandao to seemingly heavy European weapons like greatswords, battle axes, and halberds — and reveal that those, too, were much lighter than people assume.
Heavy guandao did exist, but they were mostly used for training, display, or legend — not actual combat.
