MC5 Kick Out the Jams/Empty Heart French TV from Thunder Express 1972 Jungle Records 2024-10-13 | MC5 'Kick Out the Jams' and 'Empty Heart' from 'Thunder Express' filmed live on French TV 1972. Now reissued on yellow vinyl LP and CD. The CD booklet and LP inner bag include the White Panther Party 10-point Programme and notes from an early 70's interview feature. 'Empty Heart' is the only recording of their cover of the early Rolling Stones track (from their 5x5 EP recorded at Chess Studios in June 1964); also on the album is the otherwise unreleased title-track 'Thunder Express' and two early singles from 1967 & 1968.MC5's first album since the 70's, 'Heavy Lifting' is released in October 2024. Sadly, this year guitarist Wayne Kramer, drummer Dennis Thompson and their influential manager John Sinclair all passed away, marking the end of the MC5 era. Play Dead release their first career-spanning anthology: a limited-edition blue vinyl LP with ten of their most essential tracks; the digipak CD expands to sixteen tracks. (This track isn't on it; it'll come later.) Between 1980-1985 they grew into one of the UK’s leading post-punk bands with regular indie chart hits and a dedicated live following. The band formed in Banbury, Oxfordshire in 1980 with vocalist Robert Hickson, guitarist Re Vox (aka Barry Turnbull), bassist Peter Waddleton and Mark Smith (aka ‘Wiff’) on drums. After a couple of 1981 singles on Fresh Records the band toured with UK Decay and were invited for the first of three John Peel Sessions in early 1982. Walter Lure, best known as co-frontman and songwriter of the Heartbreakers together with Johnny Thunders, also led this band, The Waldos. Heartbreakers L.A.M.F. EXPLAINER: Born To Lose ~ the Found Masters new clear audio! Jungle Records 2021-06-30 | FOUND IN AN ATTIC - the original tape, without 'mud'! This classic punk album, made in London by New York Dolls Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan's new band the Heartbreakers, was always controversial - and not just for the acronym. Upon release on Track Records in 1977, it was universally condemned in the music press for having a 'muddy mix' - later found to be a mastering fault. When Track went bust the following year, manager Leee Black Childers burgled the Track Records' Carnaby Street office and liberated the tapes that belonged to him and the band - but he found everything except the master-tape.Deluxe 2CD version now on sale, here: jungle-records.myshopify.com 45th Anniversary neon pink & white LP pre-selling soon too!Subsequent releases were remixed from the multi-tracks ('Revisted', 1984) or compiled from outtake mixes - the 'lost '77 mixes' (1994) being the version most known since. A tweaked needle lift from vinyl for a 'definitive' box set removed a lot of the 'mud' but still didn't achieve full clarity. Meanwhile, fans found that the 1977 cassette version didn't have that infamous 'mud', nor did certain European vinyl matrixes.Unexpectedly, in 2020 a chance meeting led Jungle to Daniel Secunda's archives. Danny was an old-school music biz pioneer who became a Track Records director - and the Heartbreakers 'L.A.M.F.' co-producer. In amongst his archives stored in his attic were numerous tape boxes, including two with no artist name, marked: 'Copy Master 12.7.77'. They turned out to be a crystal-clear 'L.A.M.F.', just as the band and producers intended it. Sadly, in August 2020 the Heartbreakers co-lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Walter passed away. He was the last of the Heartbreakers 'L.A.M.F.' line-up - Johnny Thunders died in 1991, Jerry Nolan in 1992, and Billy Rath in 2014. Walter's punk memoir autobiography is published in paperback in June 2021, and his band The Waldos also get their album 'Rent Party' reissued on blue vinyl for Record Store Day's RSD Drop2, followed by a CD reissue.So - is it much different? Vive Le Rock's Joe Whyte's review says:- "the sound is clearer, sharper, more focused but it's fairly subtle too. If the songs are ingrained in your DNA, you'll feel the difference straight away. Punchier and clearer with Nolan's drums and cymbals cutting through, Billy Rath's bass slinkier and ballsier than the original mixes. The buccaneering guitar licks of Thunders guitar are right in your face, and Walter Lure's choppy, sinuous leads wind in and out." An example: 'It's Not Enough' - when choosing tracks for 'the Lost mixes' from the attempts at assorted studios, there were only two versions to choose from. One had vocals mixed far too high; the other very low. We went with the low vocals version - they almost fade away at one point. Nina Simone Its Cold Out Here unseen video for 1989 single Jungle Records 2019-08-31 | Nina Simone 'It's Cold Out Here', video from the 'Nina's Back' album. In 1989 Jungle were privileged to get the UK licence for Nina Simone’s latest studio album, ‘Nina’s Back’ (her penultimate album), and the ‘Live and Kickin’’ album. Excited to be issuing music by such an icon, we were even more so when we found out she was due to perform at the Royal Albert Hall to coincide. Apart from an archive hit single from an advert and sometimes erratic Ronnie Scott's residencies, little had been heard from her in recent years.BBC2’s TV programme ‘The Late Show’ (the ‘Later’ music programme forerunner) were keen to book her to perform. TV presenter Tracey MacLeod was chasing us on the phone, the BBC paid peanuts but the exposure would have been well worth it for most artists. We hired Rough Trade's legendary PR guy, the late Scott Piering to also try and get on the radio and in the press. However, meeting with Nina’s bemused manager in the posh Notting Hill Arts Club – not typically our scene – was frustrating. Eventually, Nina Simone phones us up. She’s very grateful for our interest, but she’s moved on from this album and the people she recorded it with (producer Eddie Singleton, whom we also met up with), and she really can’t demean herself by jumping on to any promotional circus (paraphrased slightly!). Leaving us feeling simultaneously excited, disappointed and a bit naïve.The Royal Albert Hall concert was wonderful. A true diva, in the nicest sense.We issued the single 'It's Cold Out Here', an Arthur Adams song, on no less than four formats (7”, 12”, CD & a cassette single - well it was the 80's). It had single edits, live version b-sides of 'My Baby Just Cares For Me' and 'Mississippi Goddam', all in a vain attempt to dent the charts. In 1971 he acquired a ACCT film directors ticket, and then mostly worked in experimental film along with the occasional commercial commission, along with presenting photography and art exhibitions. He won a BAFTA award for a documentary he directed for the Forestry Commission. Tracigally Ed died in 1992 at age 49, hit by a HGV truck when cycling on Oxford Street. (Trucks are no longer allowed there.)Jonathan Price & Software are:Robin Ashton-Jones - drums; Kevin Beer - vocals, maracas; Simon Doughty - Percussion; Steven Draper - bass, cello, voice, keyboards; David MacDonald - keyboards; Simon Picard - tenor saxophone; Jonathan Price - guitar synth, keyboards, percussion, vocals.Jonathan Price went on to release a vinyl album under the name 'Nature Lovers' - "Beginning To End" in 1985 on Ink Records, and 'Software' had a cassette release "Men Without Clothes" in 1981. Both are now very rare and collectable.
