When Gussie asks Frank to spend a night of infidelity with her instead of reuniting with his closest friends, he must choose between two paths: faithfulness to his roots or the temptation, seduction, and glamour of fame and fortune.
So excited to see this brought to life after 2 and a half months of planning and working on this project!! I fell in love with the character of Gussie when I got to play her in a production of Merrily We Roll Along in college. She's so deliciously bitchy and over-the-top and SUCH a fun character to sink my teeth into! Here's a fun fact: both in this video and when I did the production previously, I made sure Gussie doesn't move any closer after she says "hm?" This is to force Frank to initiate the kiss, finalizing his decision to go down this path of destruction. She never forces him to do anything- the choice is ultimately his, and I love that.
In the musical this scene takes place in 1968 when the characters are a good bit older, but I decided to do a more contemporary take with them at a younger age. Many of the details, like Frank having just moved in, remain the same though! :)
