PoliceActivity | Grover Beach Officer Shoots Man Who Advanced Towards Him With a Replica Gun @PoliceActivity | Uploaded June 2024 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.

Grover Beach, California — On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at approximately 6:23 p.m., Grover Beach Police Officers were dispatched to Kautz Chevron at Grand Avenue and 13th Street, regarding a subject who displayed a firearm to a person. Officers arrived on scene and were unable to locate the subject described and cleared the area. At approximately 6:35 p.m., Officers were dispatched to a male causing a disturbance near Grand Avenue and 13th Street. Callers reported that a male was throwing rocks at passing cars. A Grover Beach Police Officer arrived on scene and contacted the suspect, 41-year-old Aaron Edward Gardner, matching the description. Upon exiting the patrol car, Gardner told the officer he had a gun, and would shoot the officer.
The officer gave several commands to Gardner to comply. Gardner continued to be uncooperative and continued to tell the officer he had a gun and would shoot the officer. Gardner then advanced toward the officer quickly raising his right arm with a replica firearm in his hand. The officer fired his service weapon and struck Gardner several times. Gardner was immediately provided medical attention by assisting officers and emergency medical services. He was transported to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Gardner, who has an extensive criminal history in multiple states, was unhoused and traveling through California. At the time of the shooting, Gardner had warrants for his arrest in the states of Kansas and Texas.
