Resistors can be grouped in two main configurations: series and parallel.
In series connection, resistors are connected end-to-end so that the same current flows through each resistor. The total resistance in a series connection is the sum of individual resistances.
In parallel connection, resistors are connected across the same two points so that the voltage across each resistor is the same. The total resistance in a parallel connection is calculated differently, using reciprocal values of individual resistances, and is always less than the smallest resistor in the group.
