We were proud to announce a first-of-its-kind clinical trial today alongside Emory University School of Medicine for a drug treatment to improve depression and cognitive symptoms in former football players.
As Emory's Dr. Christina Gavegnano, a co-PI of the study explains, the drug baricitinib is known to block bad inflammation and helps promote tissue repair and good inflammation. It's already FDA-approved for other conditions, so researchers are testing if it can reduce inflammation and improve depression and other cognitive symptoms in football players.
Men ages 30–55 who played 11+ years may be eligible for the study in Atlanta.
