During the winter in Yellowstone National Park bison occasionally fall into the Yellowstone River and drown. Unless wolves find them they are preserved in the cold Yellowstone winters. When bears wake up from hibernation in the spring the bison provide a much needed source of nutrients after a long winter sleep.
