Grief Changes Shape | Heart Lessons 20 Years Later
Grief doesn’t end.
It changes shape.
When I first wrote Heart Lessons, my family was still carrying the loss of my brother Buck. What I couldn’t know then was how much more grief life would ask me to carry.
Since writing that book, I’ve also lost my brother Brad, my father, and my mother.
But this conversation is not only about grief after death.
Grief can come through many kinds of loss.
The loss of a loved one.
The loss of your health.
The end of a job or career.
The end of a relationship.
Financial loss.
The loss of a home.
Children leaving home.
The loss of the future you thought you were building.
In this July Heart Lessons video, I talk about grief as an ongoing process, the way loss changes over time, and how writing, journaling, creativity, work, and community can help us keep moving without pretending the grief has disappeared.
This episode also connects to Licensed2BBadass through the first S: Stay the Course.
Staying the course through grief is different than staying the course through success.
But it matters just as much.
