This was basically a test race for everyone signed up for AMG League (formerly NRLR)'s Grid WTCC (well ... TC-2 now) championship to get together and see how everything worked and how the game behaves.
If you know my history with recording software then you'll forgive me for the crap frame rate; I just used Xbox DVR and had it locked to 1080p/30 since 1080p/60 often acts awry for some reason, maybe can't record quick enough to the disk or something I dunno. Surprisingly, recording went fine. Maybe because it's DX12. I don't seem to have issues recording DX11/12 games (grid autosport is DX10 afaik)
I went through the usual thing of practicing for a couple hours (in hindsight I should have practiced a little more to get consistent at maggots/becketts as that's where I lost all of my time to Lore). What I learned above all was this: car tuning in GRID 2019 SUCKS. springs/damping/rollbars don't do shit, except make the car squirrelly on kerbs. Brake bias literally has two settings: tofu drift mode if it's set to 0 or 25, and Jensen Interceptor mode if it's set to 50, 75 or 100.
The gear ratio tuning officially pisses me off, as this video demonstrates. I was 10mph faster down the straights than Lore because I had my gears one notch longer than him (25 vs 50) but his acceleration around literally every other part of the track made the fact that he maxed out halfway down the hangar straight completely irrelevant. I couldn't keep up with him out of the old start/finish complex, but would hoon him down the hangar straight and pass only to lose it again in the following corner as he'd have the drive.
I learned after the race that traction control was supposedly banned; I have it set to 1, so ... technically I should be DSQ'd? the cars have too much power understeer with TC completely off, and the throttle control in this game is like the brakes ... it's either 'not enough' or it's 'too much'.
Nort apparently got DSQ'd last corner for too many penalties, which sucks. I find that weird, because I got a few penalties but no actual time penalty applied (either from me backing out slightly or whatever). Probably a good thing this was just a test.
Racing beside that was good. I've got a comfortable setup for handling. Granty and Lore's pace surprised me, as did Darktown's lack of it. Unsurprisingly to me, everybody was using the Audi because everything else handles like shit. I think the Golf and Subaru will play well on other tracks like Sepang, which are faster, or maybe when people figure out what the car tuning is meant to be. I know that the Subaru is legit AF on Sepang 'cus there are minimal annoying corners. I thought there'd have been more Golfs though.
Don't ask about the Focus.
Anyway. Enjoy me trying to get around Lore's Audi.
