Harris provides instruments that are critical to forming a complete picture of carbon dioxide cycles and other greenhouse gases, like methane, from space, air, and ground. One of these instruments is GreenLITE™, a remote sensing system that measures greenhouse gases on the ground in localized areas of interest—such as carbon sequestration sites, urban environments, and wetlands.
GreenLITE™ is the only tool of its kind, providing a highly accurate monitoring capability 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Partially funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, GreenLITE™ was co-developed by Harris and Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) and uses a network of ground retro-reflectors and transceivers along with proprietary software to deliver two-dimensional spatial maps of greenhouse gas concentrations for areas from 1 to 30 square kilometers (km2).
