Most of Germany’s 32,000 school grounds are in urgent need of transformation—from paved, concrete campuses to greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient spaces. The Nature Conservancy and Environmental Action Germany (Deutsche Umwelthilfe) worked together to drive this shift by supporting green upgrades and organising national symposia that build capacity across communities working with the younger generation. We brought together school officials, students, policymakers, and planning professionals to spark dialogue and foster peer learning through inspiring talks, hands-on workshops, and student-led discussions. This short video captures the energy and creativity fueling the movement to reimagine schoolyards as vibrant, sustainable places for future generations.
