This 22 mile Great Western Trail section ride was completed as a day trip on July 22nd, 2020. In mountain biking terms, this southbound section is basically 5.5 miles of downhill bliss in Richard's Hollow buffered by 8-9 miles of less blissful (but still enjoyable) chunks on both sides. I underestimated Richard's Hollow and overestimated both my skills and new (to me) hardtail bike to take a couple of nasty falls through that section. I don't regret taking on this Great Western Trail ride with variable terrain though.
Our route was as follows:
Lodge Campground/Willow Creek to Rick’s Canyon to Marie Spring to Adams Corral to Richard’s Hollow to Left Hand Fork Road to Blacksmith Fork Canyon Road to Hyrum, UT
Backpacker Diaries would like to thank Richard Langenheim for shuttling help and Christy Bergin for additional media.
