Great Smoky Mountains Railroad: #1702 Tuckasegee River 8-18/19-2023.
We make our way back to the town of Bryson City to see the GSMR once again. After hearing about the Nantahala Gorge side of the line receiving some maintenance, the GSMR temporarily only could run on the Tuckasegee River excursion. Since 1702 doesn't run very often on the Tuckasegee anymore, this was a grand opportunity.
*In addition to seeing 1702 on the Tuckasegee River, another bonus was she had a different whistle on the 19th. All of summer she wore the shop built 6 chime. On the 19th she wore a custom built "N&W inspired" hooter (single chime). In my opinion it suited 1702 really good, and it is similar to what some of the Southern Railway locomotives would have worn back in the steam era. After hearing that it was taken off the next day due to complaints (I don't know why anyone would complain about it), I am very fortunate I caught it when I did.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the 1702 with two different whistles!
