When the whole "Great Journey Scarab Gun" thing was going I got bored and just started killing my partner in the scarab. The scarab was disappearing and saw a plasma rifle inside the scarab. After some debating and a second try at this trick I realized it was a regular plasma rifle and nothing special like a scarab gun.
