Barry Gibb recounts that one day, the Bee Gees' manager, Robert Stigwood, called him.
He was producing the film version of the musical “Grease” and needed a new title song. Barry hadn't seen the film; this was a creative challenge.
“How on earth do you write a song called ‘Grease’?” he wondered.
“I remember walking along the pier, when it suddenly occurred to me that it was a word, and the thing to do was to write about the word.”
Grease is the word, he wrote, is the word that you heard. It’s got a groove, it’s got a meaning.
