Grateful Dead 1966 Los Angeles Acid Test-Related Concert Poster by Owsley Stanley. An original, extremely scarce concert poster for the Grateful Dead, Tiny Tim (!) and Del Close performing at "A Rock and Roll Dance [and] Light Show" at the Trouper's Club in Hollywood, California on Friday night, March 25, 1966. Acid Test historians consider this one of the Southern California Acid Test events after they expanded south from the Bay Area. Ken Kesey was in exile in Mexico so didn't attend, but Ken Babbs was there; Owsley designed the poster; and the Grateful Dead played. And the heat was on in L.A. over LSD, so Owsley might have just figured to play it safe and not use "Acid" on this poster. That's informed speculation.
It's said they may have run off only 100 of these posters. And 100 is also a guess at the number of attendees who were there, witnesses say. Any way you approach this gem, it's a spectacular piece of Grateful Dead history and psychedelia. You only see one come up for sale every few years, and it's always privately. So naturally, this is Heritage's first. And hopefully not our last, but that's one bet we wouldn't take. Measures 13" x 19 7/8" and grades to Very Good condition.
