Los Angeles firefighters responded Saturday afternoon, July 18th, 2026, to a grass fire in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area near 6400 North Balboa Boulevard.
First-arriving companies found approximately 150 feet by 150 feet of heavy vegetation burning with a slow rate of spread. Firefighters immediately began an aggressive fire attack while LAFD helicopters provided aerial support. No homes or other structures were threatened during the incident, and Park Rangers were notified.
Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire after it grew to approximately 200 feet by 200 feet. Crews remained on scene extinguishing hot spots and conducting mop-up operations to ensure the fire was fully contained. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
