Round 10 of 12 · Spa Classic Pits · Originally broadcast Sat 23 May
The GSRC Lotus 49 World Championship — classic Formula One on iRacing, every Saturday.
The Lotus 49 is one of the most significant cars in Formula One history. Introduced in 1967, it was the first successful F1 car to use the engine as a fully-stressed structural member of the chassis. Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe designed it around the new Ford-Cosworth DFV — an engine that went on to win more Grands Prix than any other.
It won on debut. At the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix, Graham Hill put the 49 on pole and Jim Clark took the victory.
