GRAND PAVILION is a production duo that makes transformative electronic music combining layered samples and rhythms into a blend of organic and electronic instruments. Taking influence from bands such as Bonobo, Odesza and SG Lewis the duo thrive on developing immersive electronic music with a storytelling element.
“Our sound is strongly centered around texture, space and constructing a rich soundscape into which we put our songs. We love messing around with vocal treatments and pitching and tend to create weird synth like sounds from them.”
Having put out a slew of remixes in conjunction with the ‘Bella Union’ label in the UK and Monotreme Records, Grand Pavilion have developed a thoroughly unique sound with detailed production. With their heart set on Europe Vocalist Tom Hunt and Stuart McNair relocated overseas late 2015 and have set up in a cozy home studio in East London.
In March of this year the duo released their latest body of work 'Anywhere Ft. Loretta Angus' and an accompanying B-side, 'Roads Like Veins' emanating from a sample-gathering trip they took through Europe in 2014.
"Both tracks speak to the intrinsic link which is formed between being born overseas, and the restless desire to travel and explore further. These songs were heavily influenced by the relationships we formed when travelling through Europe - having to say goodbye to some of the people you meet when traveling can be heartbreaking. Fittingly we recorded parts of these songs in Berlin, London and finally our home in Byron Bay to track live drums and record vocals with the three girls from local Brisbane band AVA and Perth local Loretta Angus”
After having performed a string of shows and DJ sets throughout 2016 Grand Pavilion went back into the studio to put the finishing touches on their next body of work. ‘Touch’ is the first of these new tracks to surface and continues on from where the pair left off in ‘Anywhere’, exploring the theme of escapism and how it sometimes takes a friend or lover to jolt you awake from feeling caught up in your daily life.
