What is Gran Turismo 4 Spec II?
Spec II is a fan-made mod for Gran Turismo 4 that significantly enhances and expands the original game. It’s based on the NTSC Online Public Beta version of GT4, not the standard retail build. Distributed as a patch (xDelta), so you need the correct base ISO to apply it.

Key Features / Improvements:
Gameplay & Events:
Prize Car Randomizer: You can toggle a mode so that prize cars are randomized. The random seed is based on your username, so rewards differ per play-through.
Event Synthesizer: A big addition — lets you create custom races, adjust difficulty, and basically race any of your cars on any track.
New Driving Missions: Adds missions 35–40.
More Events: 15+ new events in existing halls, plus tweaks to existing events to encourage variety.
Track Addition: Circuit Valencia (from Tourist Trophy) is added into Arcade Mode and the Event Synthesizer.
Tighter Event Restrictions: Some events are rebalanced so you’re encouraged to use different cars / strategies.
Prize Car Purchase: After unlocking, certain prize-only cars can now be bought at dealerships.
Restoration Feature: “Full Restoration” mechanic — you can restore a car’s condition + mileage to brand-new.
Tires for Rally Cars: Rally cars now come with Dirt and Snow tyres unlocked by default.
Audio & Visual Enhancements
Enhanced Engine Sounds: Over 400 cars have improved engine sounds, with ~130 new recordings.
Better Race Feedback: Improved transmission and tyre skid sound effects.
New Colour Options: More livery / paint options for various cars.
Restored Regional Variants: Some region-specific cars / variants (e.g. Korean Hyundais, certain Lexuses) are added / restored.
UI / Quality of Life (QoL) Improvements
Dealership Overhaul: Larger, period-accurate brochure images in dealer menus.
Quick Menu: A new quick menu (via SELECT) gives fast access to common functions.
Camera Options: More camera modes — can toggle roof / bonnet / interior cameras, analog/digital HUD, etc.
Improved Menu Navigation: Username length limit increased, sorting options in the garage, better layout, etc.
Status Info: Shows UCD (used car deal) week, % of distinct cars owned, etc.
Balancing & Physics
Car Physics Corrections: Some cars’ physics were reworked to be more realistic or consistent (e.g. grip, weight data).
Licence / Event Rebalance: Driving missions, licence tests, and event unlocks are rebalanced (e.g. fewer barriers).
Prize Requirements Changed: Some event unlock / reward criteria have been altered to shift progression.
Settings / Controls
Global overrides for driving assists (ASM, TCS) — so you don’t have to set them per car.
You can remap shift-up/down to R3.
Limitations / Known Issues
Some versions of GT4 saves are not compatible with Spec II.
Certain features like multi-player LAN / network may not work or have been removed. For example: “there is NO network settings … the decision to cut it … freed up some LAN-related variables” in the mod.
On emulators like PCSX2, some users report black screen crashes or performance issues depending on graphics settings.
When updating to newer mod versions, backing up your save is recommended.
