NativLang | Grammar of Sentences: Phrases vs. Dependencies (Lesson 2 of 4) @NativLang | Uploaded August 2013 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
Basic syntax for language learners. This second lesson focuses on phrases and their composition, including heads, complements and specifiers. You will also see how phrases are embedded into larger phrases to create sentences, as well as how to represent phrases in writing with [brackets].

The last section of the video compares phrases to dependencies. In dependency grammar, words are linked to other words instead of building into larger and larger embedded, swappable chunks.

This video is part of the "Introduction to the Grammar of Sentences", a free online linguistics course.
