Graduation 2020 will be something my sons will never forget. With one leaving grade 8 and the other one leaving grade 12, they both missed out on a traditional graduations due to Covid-19. However their teachers all went above and beyond to make these milestones special during these unprecedented times (can't believe I used those words lol). I decided that their grad cards should be extra-special as well. I have made these cool explosion box cards before the "old fashioned" way before by measuring and cutting out the cards stock, but I stumbled upon a video by Deb.bie O'Neal where she had the templates for all of the pieces in a shareable file for the Cricut which made my life a whole lot easier! I could concentrate more on the fun part of decorating the card rather than the construction of it. I will link that video below...thank you Debbie!
If you don't have a Cricut, not to worry, it is still pretty easy to make. Here are the directions:
Take a piece of black cardstock and cut to 11.5" X 6" but leave a little tab about 1.2" sticking out on the bottom section to attach the box together (you can also cut a small strip later to glue the box together). Score the short side in at 3", but only down to 8.25". Then cut along the long side ever 2.75", but only to the center line. You also need another piece of black cardstock cut 8" X 1" and scored at 2.75", 3.75", 6.5", and 7"5" to make the insert to attach your pop up pieces to. You will also need squares of patterned paper to decorate the flaps of the box and some stickers and plastic packaging cut into strips to attach the pop up pieces to. Decorate the flaps inside and/or outside the box. Fold the insert to make a rectangle and glue it inside the box before folding up the box to make it easier. Then fold the box and glue together. Add stickers to plastic strips and attach to insert, making sure they "hide" inside the card when closed. Decorate the box as you like! CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020!
