This is my version of "babysitting the granddaughter".

We made a leather coin purse off camera when we were done with this.

Before any of you start giving me flack for handing a pointy stick to an 8 year old.... She and her mother both agreed that this thing gets snapped in half and thrown away the first time she does anything irresponsible with it.

Kids have to learn responsibility at some point... sooner is better.
