Starlord generated great amount of purple smoke when he touched, with his sweaty hands, the violet Infinity Stone in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. Similarly, clouds of purple iodine vapour are produced during the reaction between aluminum and iodine catalysed by water.
For immediate results, it is important to grind the iodine in advance. Carefully mix the iodine with the aluminum powder and place the mixture in a small mound. Put one or two drops of water onto the top of the mound. If you are disposing of a mixture which has not yet reacted, pour this into an excess of 1.0 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in a fume hood and leave until it all dissolves before resuming to normal disposal.
