Dennis R. MacDonald, a distinguished scholar and Emeritus Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Claremont School of Theology, earned a Bachelor's degree from Duke University, a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, and his Ph.D. in Religion from Harvard University in 1976. He has since held esteemed academic positions at various institutions such as Gospel College, the Iliff School of Theology, and the Claremont School of Theology, among others. Dr. MacDonald served as the Director of the Institute for Antiquity and Christianity at the Claremont Graduate University from 2000-2010. He also has been a visiting professor at prestigious institutions including Harvard Divinity School, Union Theological Seminary (NYC), Florida State University, and Yonsei University (S. Korea). His professional affiliations include being a long-time member of Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS) and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL).

Dr. MacDonald is recognized as a leading authority on the literary and cultural contexts of the New Testament, particularly on the use of classical and Jewish sources in the Gospels and other early Christian writings. His work has been widely cited and has earned him a reputation as a visionary scholar who has helped reshape the study of early Christianity. Throughout his career, Dr. MacDonald has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the John Templeton Award for Theological Promise, the Guggenheim Fellowship, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship.

Dr. MacDonald has edited several collections of essays on early Christian literature and has authored numerous groundbreaking books, more than a dozen monographs, and scores of articles in his field of expertise. His most influential works include "The Homeric Epics and the Gospel of Mark," "Does the New Testament Imitate Homer? Four Cases from the Acts of the Apostles," and "Two Shipwrecked Gospels: The Logoi of Jesus and Papias's Exposition of Logia about the Lord." He has dedicated himself to a scholarly pursuit of considerable significance. Through the authorship of multiple books, he meticulously documented the pervasive influence of ancient Greek literature on the New Testament's composition. His proposition of a mimetic approach has the potential to serve as a critical paradigm shift within the field of New Testament studies. This approach reorients focus from the mere editing of the New Testament authors to their creative emulation of Greek epic literature, thereby offering a fresh perspective on their literary achievements.

Dr. MacDonald's contributions extend beyond academia, as he has also appeared on several television broadcasts for the History Channel and A&E, and is a sought-after guest for podcasts, including MythVision Podcast. He has also served as a contributor and consultant for various media outlets. In addition to his scholarship, Dr. MacDonald is a dedicated teacher and mentor who has empowered countless students over the years. His work continues to inspire new generations of scholars as well as broaden our understanding of the literary and cultural context of the New Testament.
