"Video game addiction" is a term that has always annoyed me.

While it's obvious that some (these days, many) video games are designed to keep the player hooked, usually for nefarious financial reasons, I believe it takes a very special kind of person to be willing to abandon their reality in favour of a virtual world.

Today, I'll explain what I believe to be the real underlying reasons why some people seem to have their lives taken over by video games, and become, not "addicts", but what I like to call.. Goomers.
