Hi everyone, we have some devastating news to share with you. On the 29th of December, we lost Silver. She was her usual self in the morning, waiting at her bowl for veggies and wheeking along with the others, she was always so affectionate and let me scratch behind her ears like normal.
I went back into the piggie room later in the day to check their water and hay and she had suddenly become very lethargic and couldn't walk properly.
I took her out to syringe feed her some critical care and water but she wouldn't swallow. I also tried her with some Metacam in case she was in any pain. I put her back with the herd so she wouldn't be alone while we called the emergency vets but it was too late, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her sister and her new friends. It was so sudden and unexpected!
We are devastated and a part of me forgets that she has gone, I walk into the piggie room expecting her to rush up and put her little paws on her bowl or stand up on her back legs in the hope of getting a treat. There is a Silver shaped hole in our lives at the moment but I take comfort in knowing that she was a very happy piggie and was loved by thousands of people. Pearl is doing well, although I'm sure she misses her sister, she is lucky enough to be with Lilly and Ollie so won't have to grieve on her own, I will of course be keeping a close eye on them to make sure that they are coping okay.
It's always so difficult loosing a part of the family but it's important for us to remember that we are so blessed to have been able to share more than a year of our lives with her. We adopted her over a year ago from another devoted piggie mum who I know will also miss her terribly. Between us, I know she had an amazing life and was very spoilt, we lost her far too soon and I will always remember her as being the most affectionate little girl with one of the loudest wheeks I have ever heard.
