Commonly referred to as Little Thailand, Golden Mile Complex comprised affordable Thai restaurants, seedy bars and small shops offering Thai produce. The complex was also a nest for Singapore’s creative underbelly to thrive, a welcome alternative to the country’s often polished facade. In 2021, the building was bought by a consortium with plans to renovate the premises.

While the Urban Redevelopment Authority announced in October 2020 that it was officially proposing Golden Mile Complex to be conserved in light of its historical and architectural significance, little is known of the new owner’s redevelopment plans.
