A woman I dated way back, but remain friends with, asked me to get her daughter out for the weekend. To show her some skills, something different from todays life style b.s. Her daughter had expressed an interest in backpacking and told her she knows a guy, who knows a guy, who has a little experience in these things. I went to work Friday night with 2 backpacks loaded and ready, got off work 5 am Saturday, picked her up and off we went. NO SLEEP IN BROOKLIN! Got to the lot around 730 and hiked until around noon. stopped for lunch and a swim session. Then set up camp and went for a hike. I told her of the things I have seen, done, found, learned. We foraged for wild berries, some cactus fruits and even caught a few trout.
s we were returning, there's one area in the canyon that is filled with dozens of voices and shows with a never ending loop of visual memories! It is so strange, but awesome, how these spots exist and are on auto play the second we make contact with the dirt, rocks and brush!
This one of mine, holds a wide range of things, from split bamboo fly rods and a long haired kid named Conner, to a lost stash of cactus cooler, from my nephew Robert, to Gabriel and a really bad header I took one pouring down rain storm on my way out through the boulder filed.
I have traveled with AT LEAST, ten fold what most backpackers have encountered and believe it or not, every detail, every one of them, is I'm my head and retrieved at the simple sight of something connected to it/them! My head is overflowing with lures, fly patterns, songs, stories.
I dread the day they all blur and start to slip away! My life is incredible and I am so lucky to have shared in so many others of you. I thank you all for the really big show!
