On Monday, March 27, we celebrated LVMPD 911 Communications Operator Salina Freeman with a special ceremony at Resorts World.
Last year, she took a 911 call from a mother who had just attempted to drown her 1-year-old child.
The frightening phone call is just one example of the thousands that come into our dispatch center each day.
Seconds matter. Our operators and dispatchers work to gather as much information as possible from people on the worst day of their lives.
Salina handled the call with calm professionalism, quiet efficiency, and a great level of empathy.
Salina, a mother herself, found it hard to control her emotions as she listened to the unthinkable.
In the end, officers arrived, the baby was taken to the hospital, and determined she was uninjured.
The mother is facing the justice system.
