Video of the game Goldrunner running at 60 Hz (even smoother than at 50 Hz!)
When you let the game run, the scrolling text on the title screen changes after each game sequence. Here are the texts:
- "Welcome to - Goldrunner. From Microdeal. Copyright 1987. The game of destruction. If it moves - shoot it. If it is still - blast it !"
- "Goldrunner was designed and programmed by Steve Bak. Graphics by Pete Lyon. Music by Rob Hubbard. Voice from Richard Philipps, sampled by ST Replay from 2 Bit Systems and Microdeal. Produced by Microdeal 1987."
- "It is the year 2110. Manking must flee from the Earth which it has decimated. Migration can only be achieved after first reducing the space pirates from the ring-world of Triton to a helpless state. That is the task ahead for - the Goldrunner."
- "Destroy the energy in each ring by shooting the ground targets. Avoid the tall constructions. Shoot the airbone defences. Avoid their disrupter bombs. Guard your boosters and wing lasers. Stay alive!"
I stopped recording the video shortly after the music started looping.
A few fun facts:
- Rob Hubbard originally composed the music for level 4 of the game Human Race (released in 1985 on Commodore 64).
- The game had a sequel, Goldrunner II, released in 1988. Another one was planned (Goldrunner 3D), which was finally released under the name Epic by Ocean in 1992.
