On this day in 2009, a group of Pixar directors received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 66th Venice International Film Festival. John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Brad Bird, and Lee Unkrich, the directors of all the Pixar Animation Studios films to date, were honored for their work. George Lucas presented the award to the group. It was the first time this accolade was bestowed on a collection of filmmakers instead of an individual. [15 years ago in 2024]
