An all-female a cappella quartet founded in the 1930's. Virginia native and lead singer Jeanette Harris joined in 1940 to take the Harps to stardom on the Gospel Highway. The group made only two recordings, but were considered the "hardest singing female quartet", an astonishing distinction with competition like the Famous Davis Sisters of Philadelphia, PA!
Jeanette left the Harps in 1960 to raise a family. The Harps were not revived until the late 1980's/early 1990's, and the lineup was changed with the addition of Lela Farrow, Loretta Henderson and Cheryl Harris, daughter of Jeanette Harris, along with older members Jeanette and Arlene Jordan.
