Golden Axe Animated Series Trailer Reaction – Did They Miss the Mark?
The Golden Axe animated series is finally here — but does this new take on the SEGA classic capture what made Golden Axe so memorable?
Today I’m reacting to the first trailer for the new Golden Axe animated series. Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead are back to face Death Adder once again, and visually there’s actually a lot here that feels right at home in the fantasy world of Golden Axe.
But there’s one big question: has the series leaned a little TOO heavily into comedy?
Golden Axe has always had an incredible sword-and-sorcery setting, larger-than-life characters and a classic tale of warriors seeking revenge against Death Adder. The new animation certainly seems to understand the colourful fantasy aesthetic — but the trailer also pushes the slapstick and humour pretty hard.
Could this combination actually work, or has the new Golden Axe series missed the mark with its tone?
