Awhile back, I saw a recent collapse in an old productive Gold mine of the old days. I saw new dirt, possibly pay dirt had dropped and I wanted to sample a few pans to see if it would pay off. I have been reading, researching, hiking, camping and discovering the history of this canyon for decades! Nearly anything you google in the range, google uses MY PHOTOS to answer. This fact alone goes to show the extent and consistency of my connection with the San Gabriel Range.
I asked a friend to join me and we checked out the damage the fires, the 2 recent flash floods after the fires and what effects the wind and drought are having on the canyon. It is sad to see it in it's current condition, after experiencing it in it's better years! It's almost like an old friend to me any more.
W experienced some really cool things, such as a beautiful snake, not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 or 5 cats, They were young cats and their mom or dad, was calling to them as we approached. One was on the river bed, possibly a straggler and in a bush. I tripped and did a header while trying to get some video, but I did get the others and real clear too. As always, we met some old friends and made a few new ones.
