Now let's be serious here, the outcome was pretty much obvious, Superman is the definition of a 'Mary-Sue' simply because he is a representation of all that is good, he's a created idol for comic book fans to show achievements in power, even his weakness is something that isn't on Earth which allows him to keep his God like powers. Ultimately this could be considered his biggest flaw, by creating a character with no boundaries you risk alienating him (no pun intended) from the reader, when we see the protagonist in moments of weakness we sympathies with them, it makes them more human, granted Superman is not a human but with how much he's lived on earth, he acts a lot like one, yes Superman has had his down moments but with his amount of power he's usually able to overcome them, I mean he's the original John Cena of superheros. So when you put someone with no boundaries against someone who breaks them, then there's no match.
