The ABI on GOES-16 scans three sectors. These are the Full Disk (hemispheric view), contiguous U.S and two smaller meso-scale sectors that can be moved over regions of interest (e.g., rapidly changing phenomena). This animation is for GOES-16, while placed over the longitude of the central U.S. The ABI has applications both on the large and small scales. While the Full Disk and contiguous U.S. sectors are scanned every 15 and 5 minutes, respectively, the meso-scale sectors are scanned every minute! This means that if both meso-scale sectors are programmed to scan over the same area, there will be 30-sec imagery!
