Gods, Death & Reapers Alpha 5 is here, and I jumped in mostly blind to see what this extraction ARPG is actually like.
This is a first impressions gameplay video from the Closed Alpha 5 test, covering character creation, the tutorial, early combat, the sanctuary system, PvE extraction runs, loot, sigils, weapons, and the general feel of the game so far.
Gods, Death & Reapers is trying to blend Diablo / Path of Exile-style ARPG combat with extraction mechanics, full-loot tension, PvPvE maps, sanctuary upgrades, and a dark fantasy afterlife setting. It is still very alpha, so bugs, rough edges, missing sound effects, UI issues, matchmaking waits, and some jank are expected.
My main takeaways:
- The tone and humor are solid.
- The sanctuary/base-building loop has potential.
- Combat is slower and more MOBA-like than I expected.
- Stable PvE maps are a good idea.
- Matchmaking wait times could become a serious problem.
- The game really needs an actual scythe weapon option. We are Reapers. Come on.
This is not a final review. It is an early alpha first look based on my time with the test build.
If you enjoy ARPGs, extraction games, Diablo-likes, Path of Exile-style loot games, or weird dark fantasy experiments, this one may be worth keeping an eye on.
