Because that second statement happened to me more than once while I was in the dating pool and the guys need to know it is not as romantic as it sounds. Whenever I was told this I always thought "now if I say no, I'm not just turning down a coffee date, I'm apparently turning down God's plan?" That's not a fair position to put someone in, and TO BE FAIR I don't think most guys even realize that's what they're doing when they say it.
I think somewhere along the way "God told me xyz" was seen as a more serious way to express interest, when in my experience, the guys who said this were the least sure of themselves and didn't want to make a decision. Like if you say it's from God, you can't really be told no. Or if you are told no, well, she's the one with the discernment problem.
And I get it, I do, I think some guys genuinely believe this in the moment. HOWEVER, a man who says "I like you, can I take you to coffee" mature, direct, driven, brave, attractive even! A man who leads with "God told me" feels like he is handing you a verdict and asking you to either agree or become the villain.
You can pray about someone before you ask them out. You can pray the whole time you're falling for them. But when it comes to asking a girl out, just be normal and ask her for a date, her number, or whatever. Trust yourself, you got this.
