After Kratos and Thor ended their fight in a truce, which made Odin angry to a point he ended Thor's existence, Freya rushes in with her magic to bind Odin, putting a temporary halt to things.
However, Odin broke free of Freya's binding and caused the ground to collapse, everyone plummeting into Odin's secret sanctuary where the rift of knowledge is located.
Atreus, possessing the mask that allows sight through the rift and its secrets, breaks the mask, causing it to float into the rift and disappear alongside the rift as well.
Odin, furious at what Atreus had done, goes into a full on attack against everyone else.
