Jolielegal | God of War 2 Cutscenes with voices removed @Jolielegal | Uploaded June 2020 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
God of War 2 cutscenes (with a few small exceptions) are pre-rendered video files, and have a single stereo audio track. Therefore, all the different audio elements (voicelines, music, sound effects) are mixed together and it's not possible to cleanly separate them. This is an attempt to remove some of the voicelines and sound effects from the cutscenes, allowing the music to be heard more easily.
This works by removing the audio that is common to both left and right stereo channels. Since voicelines (and some sound effects) are mono single-channel recordings, they are implemented in the cutscene by duplicating the audio into both stereo channels. The result is far from perfect; some residual noise from the voicelines is present, and the music is also distorted. Some voices (like the Sisters of Fate, and Zeus in BladeOffer) have and additional echo effect that is not removed by this method.
