This hymn is best suited for the Lenten Season, Passion tide or any penitential occassion or season. This hymn was written by a Redemptorist Priest Edmund Vaughan (1827-1908). The common tune of this hymn is adapted from the French tune AU SANG a traditional tune adapted by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736).
