The music was composed by Henry Brinley Richards. It was written to mark the occasion of the marriage of the future King Edward VII to Alexandra of Denmark in 1863.
The South Lancashire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's Volunteers) was a line infantry regiment of the British Army formed in 1881 formed by the amalgamation of the 40th (the 2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot and the 82nd Regiment of Foot (Prince of Wales's Volunteers). The regiment saw service in the Second Boer War, both World Wars.
In 1958 the South Lancashire Regiment was amalgamated with 1st Battalion, the East Lancashire Regiment, to form 1st Battalion, the Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers) which was later amalgamated in 1970 with the Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) to form the Queen's Lancashire Regiment which was merged again with the King's Regiment (Liverpool and Manchester), the King's Own Royal Border Regiment, in 2007, to form the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border).
Performed by the Regimental Band of the 9/12th Lancers.
