I've wanted to visit the Sawtooth National Forest for years now. Well, we finally made it. And it didn't disappoint. One of the most popular hikes in the Sawtooth Range is the Iron Creek Trail to Sawtooth Lake. We opted to start on this trail, but turn off on the trail to Goat Lake (7640) instead. There were a couple of reasons. First, it's not as popular, so it wasn't as crowded. Second, Goat Lake is, in my opinion, more dramatic and scenic. So that's what we did. The scramble at the very end is not to be underestimated. It's beautiful, but it's steep. Not to where you're quite using your hands to scramble, but way beyond what's comfortable to hike. Still, it was worth it.
