A common response to criticism of modern work is: “If you don’t like it, go live in the forest.”
But in most modern countries, that isn’t actually possible. Land ownership laws, permits, and regulations mean you can’t simply leave society and live independently the way people imagine.
You can visit nature. You can camp temporarily. But building a life outside the system is far more restricted than many people realize.
Sometimes the choices we’re told we have… aren’t really choices at all.
